Tony Hackworth has ended the long-running saga over his future at Scarborough Athletic by announcing his intention to leave the club last night, writes James Grayson (Twitter: @jamesAgrayson).
Hackworth had featured as a substitute in last night’s 4-0 victory over Rainworth Miners Welfare before he informed Athletic boss Rudy Funk of his decision.
Hackworth captained Scarborough to the NCEL Premier Division title last season, but his future at the club has been up-in-the-air since the summer.
Hackworth initially said he planned to have a break from playing due to a long-standing injury before eventually returning to the side.
However, Tadcaster Albion manager Paul Marshall then spoke of his desire to sign the player, along with Ryan Blott.
Marshall has since claimed that he has the NCEL registration for Hackworth and Blott and it is likely the former will be appearing for Tadcaster, now that his Scarborough future has been resolved.
