Pickering Town have sacked manager Jimmy Reid following last night’s 4-0 heavy defeat at Barton Town Old Boys.
Pickering said they expect to name his successor on Monday and Mitch Cook, who managed the club three seasons ago, is a name that has been associated with the forthcoming appointment.
Cook was the manager of Pickering during the 2010-11 season until he moved to Bridlington Town – a role he left in June.
Reid’s departure ends his second spell with Pickering which began after the sacking of Pete Vasey in December 2011. Town were third-bottom in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division and Reid kept them in the Division.
Pickering ended last season strongly and finished fifth which led to high hopes for the 2013-14 campaign. However, after starting brightly, form has dipped and they are well off-the-pace in mid-table.
In a statement, the Pikes said the decision was taken “regrettably” and have thanked Reid for his contribution over the past two years.
His assistants Steve Brown and Dean McCauley will take caretaker charge of Saturday’s home match with Thackley before Reid’s successor is named on Monday.
