A young Scarborough Athletic team scored two late goals to beat Ossett Albion 3-1 in the Evo Stik Doodson Sport Cup first round encounter at Dimple Wells last night.
Goalkeeper Jason White returned to the side following a spell out injured, while the likes of Darren Clough, who scored the decisive goals, Niall Gibb, Joe Hart and Dom Richardson were given the chance to shine.
New signings Mike Atkinson (pictured) and Liam Shepherd, recently signed from Pickering Town, also appeared.
Scarborough spurned an early chance to open the scoring. Andy McManus handled in the box, but Ryan Blott smashed his penalty against the bar.
It was the Division One North strugglers, fielding new recruit Wes Milnes, that took the lead on 39 minutes through former Farsley AFC striker Ben Jones.
Blott made amends within 120 seconds by equalising with a header.
The game seemed to be heading for a penalty shootout until Clough headed home Ryan Williams’ cross. Clough then sealed the game with another goal in the closing stages.
Farsley AFC are also through after an easy 4-0 victory at Goole.
Farsley were 3-0 by the half hour mark as Robbie O’Brien, Matt Dempsey and Giblatar star Adam Priestley had scored. O’Brien added the fourth before half-time.
Goole have today announced that Sam Colbear and William Johnson-Cole have signed long-term contracts at the club.
Frickley Athletic survived a scare against whipping boys Droylsden as Gavin Allott scored a late goal to ensure the South Emsall-based side won 3-2.
Allott opened the scoring, but Droylsden equalised. Joe Kenny put Frickley ahead again, but a second leveller pulled Droylsden back into the game before Allott’s winner.
Sheffield FC will play Gresley in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round. A Zephaniah Thomas goal secured their passage in the narrow 1-0 win over Buxton.

Connor Bower scored his first goal for Garforth last night against Hall Road Rangers

Garforth Town beat Hall Road Rangers 4-2 in the Toolstation NCEL League Cup second round tie at Wheatley Park.
A much-changed Garforth side, containing goalkeeper Michael Bathurst and local youngster Tim Robertson, on loan from Farsley AFC, went in front courtesy of Connor Bower – his first goal for the club.
Bower scored again before half-time and then Curtly Martin-Wyatt added a third in the second half. A Ben Kinsley penalty and a Chris Adams strike gave Garforth a fright, but Lewis Coyle ensured the victory in the last minute.
In the Premier Division, Thackley enjoyed an important victory at title rivals Retford United – a Craig Fisher own goal on 76 minutes made the difference.
Nostell Miners Welfare’s successful audition for the relegation place continued with another calamitous defeat as they were beaten 4-0 at Barton Town Old Boys.
Barton scored all their goals in the opening 40 minutes with Ryan Cooper (2), Luke Thompson and Henry Gill scoring.
Albion Sports are through to the Third Round of the West Riding County Cup after a 2-1 win at Barnoldswick Town.
Asif Hussain scored the winner from the penalty spot with nine minutes remaining.
