John Reed will bounce back from Scarborough Athletic exit

Gone: John Reed has quit as a coach at Scarborough Athletic

John Reed has announced his exit from his position as a coach of Scarborough Athletic – along with assistant manager Darren France.
The news is an unwelcome distraction for Scarborough ahead the historic FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round game at AFC Telford United.
Both have cited “footballing reasons”, but Reed has gone into slightly more detail than France. Reed said he wanted more input and claimed that “there is so much going on that people don’t know about”.
Scarborough boss Rudy Funk needs a big response by quickly appointing a new assistant and Bryan Hughes is the ideal and obvious choice, should the midfielder want it.
Reed and France’s departures are at a time that the Seadogs were making big progress after a poor start and hopefully it won’t derail the club’s ascent up the Evo Stik Division One South table.
For Reed, it is a huge shame that he is once again without a job.
He is a quintessential Non-League football manager who guided Hatfield Main, Harrogate Town and Bridlington Town to unprecedented success – alongside leading Goole back up the football pyramid.
He also led Stalybridge Celtic’s great escape from relegation in 2005, an often forgotten feat which looked impossible at one point.
Reed was quite hurt by his sacking from Goole last season and his role at Scarborough seemed to be a match made in heaven.
He will back for one last job and there will be plenty of managers looking over their shoulders if he’s around.
