Ossett Town chief Craig Elliott admits Darlington 1883 are the last team he wanted to face in the Doodson Sport Cup, writes James Grayson (Twitter: @jamesAgrayson).
Ossett and Darlington will meet in the second round tie tomorrow night for the third time this season after previous encounters which saw Darlington win 6-1 and 4-1.
Elliott is a big admirer of Martin Gray’s team and the Town boss said: “It was bittersweet when we beat Sheffield (last week) because we needed a result to stop the rot,” he told Sports Performer.
“I had to take it seriously to win the game, but at the back of my mind I knew we had to go to Darlington on a Wednesday night.
“I still maintain that they are the best team in this league. I just can’t see how they not the best team in our league having played them twice. They are so strong.
“In both games in the first 20 minutes we have been intimidated by them and we never got to grips with them. In the last game in the second half we showed a bit more about our themselves and did well.
“I tried to go defensive last time and it didn’t work. It is one of them balancing acts, do you go attacking and see where that takes you or go deep and defensive?
“With it being the cup we have nothing to lose, put it that way. We can go there and give it a good go. We might be more attack-minded than we have before, but it will be a difficult task.
“We’re now going to have to go there and take the strongest team we can, but we’ll have to wait and see what the situation is with the lads and jobs.”
