Peter Crook saved his third penalty in two games as Harrogate Railway celebrated a 3-1 Division One North victory over Kendal Town at Station View.
Crook was the hero on Boxing Day in the 1-1 draw with Farsley AFC after denying Robbie O’Brien twice from 12-yards and yesterday he saved Sefton Gonzales’ spot kick attempt.
Crook’s moment of glory came close to half-time at a time when Railway were leading 3-0 after scoring three times in just three sensational minutes.
The veteran Colin Hunter had a role in all three goals. He opened Railway’s account with a strike from the edge of the box. Hunter then turned provider for Nathan Cartman who lobbed the Kendal goalkeeper for goal number two.
Hunter has already revealed his intention to retire at the end of the season and he made up for his penalty miss against Farsley by scoring from the spot for Railway’s third.
Kendal’s Maison McGeechan scored a late consolation for his side.
Wakefield FC survived a barrage of pressure to incredibly win 3-2 at big-spending Northwich Victoria.
Paul Lines, who manages Wakefield on a tiny shoestring budget, has been miraculously keeping his side away from the relegation zone celebrated the win thanks to a late goal.
Wakefield had been leading 2-0 through Rob Bordman’s two goals before Northwich hit back. Northwich’s former Bradford Park Avenue goalkeeper Tim Deasy made a horrific mistake in the final minutes and Ferdinand Annor was there to score.
Wakefield’s win was bad news for Ossett Albion who continue to look doomed after their 3-2 defeat to Curzon Ashton.
However, Curzon were fortunate. Darol Lucas had brought Ossett level early in the second half before Curzon went ahead again.
Mark Bett scored in the last minute for Curzon for goal number three and then Dale Kelly hit a consolation strike for Ossett.
Ossett Town lost 2-1 at Lancaster City – captain Ryan Qualter was Town’s goal-scorer.
Scarborough Athletic earned a good point at Division One South leaders Leek Town in the 2-2 draw. The Seadogs led twice through Ryan Blott and Ryan Williams, but Leek hit back both times.
Karl Colley’s goal was not enough for Goole as Mickleover Sports won 2-1.
