Brian Johnston wants his Armthorpe Welfare side to end the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season on a high note.
Armthorpe, who host Maltby Main tomorrow, have overcome their autumn troubles which saw them fail to win in the league throughout the whole of October and November – a total of ten games without a victory.
December saw the Doncaster-based club win three times in the NCEL and coupled with the victory at Garforth Town six days ago, Johnston hopes his side can build on recent results.
Armthorpe are 17th – five points from Glasshoughton Welfare – and Johnston is aiming to finish much higher.
“We have picked up recently,” he said.
“From the start of the season until now we have been inconsistent. Because we only pay expenses for travelling we have players who go on holiday or go to dues or the races.
“My expectations at the start of the season were to be higher than what we are. Hopefully now if we can keep players in the squad then maybe we kick on.
“The target is to win as many games as we can and climb the table. We’re only looking at the next game. We have Maltby next and although they have struggled lately, on their day they can be a good side.
“They have a big lad upfront (Brian Cusworth) who is fairly physical so is a threat. We beat Garforth last Saturday so hopefully we can now put some wins together and see where it takes us.”
