Ossett Albion boss Richard Tracey had said that the trip to Clitheroe was a must-win game
Ossett Albion’s fight against relegation received the first kiss of life yesterday when Richard Tracey’s men earned a crucial 2-0 win at Clitheroe.
Goals from Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Kurtis Noble secured Albion’s first league win since October – a total of 15 games without a Division One North victory.
When speaking to Sports Performer nearly two weeks manager Tracey described the Clitheroe encounter as a “game that we have to go there and get a result” and his side delivered the goods.
Although the win is a step in the right direction, there is a still long way to go for Albion as the Dimple Wells outfit are now seven points from safety with 16 games remaining.
Wakefield are the team that Ossett are trying to overhaul and Paul Lines’ side were beaten 4-0 at new leaders Warrington Town.
Wakefield have another tough test on Tuesday night at Belle Vue when Curzon Ashton visit. Curzon will go back to the top of the table if they pick up three points.

Ossett Town refused to let a budget cut derail their great run of form as Padiham were beaten 3-1 at Ingfield.
Ossett lost Ryan Qualter to Bradford (Park Avenue) in a move unrelated to the budget and then Luke Sharry left and joined Droylsden who have yet to win a league game this season and have become a laughing stock in the Premier Division.
Calum Ward cancelled out an earlier James Blackburn strike to ensure Ossett went into the break with the score at 1-1. The half-time whistle also signalled the start of unsavoury scenes involving Padiham manager Steve Wilkes who decided to confront Richard Patterson.
Fernando Moke put Ossett ahead early on in the second half and in the final minute, striker Chris Wood sealed the victory.
Third-placed Farsley AFC made it eight wins and a draw in their last nine league games courtesy of a 2-1 win over New Mills at Throstle Nest.
Robbie O’Brien gave Farsley a dream start with a third minute strike. O’Brien then played a part in the second goal as his cross was diverted home by New Mills’ Daniel Grimshaw.
A Late Chris Baguley goal made the last 15 minutes a nervy affair for Farsley, but the Villagers held on to keep up the pace with the top two.
In the South, Scarborough lost 2-0 at Coalville Town and in the Premier, Frickley Athletic drew 0-0 with fellow strugglers Witton Albion.
