Ossett Town are the only team who have beaten title candidates Curzon Ashton in the Evo Stik Division One North – and now Craig Elliott’s men have done it twice.
Curzon had won seven games on the spin until Ossett came along and recorded a ninth victory in 13 matches, courtesy of Jack Wakefield’s second half double.
Wakefield was only in the side because of Richard Patterson’s suspension due to his red card at Farsley AFC two weeks ago.
The opening goal arrived on 53 minutes with Wakefield tapping home from close range.
The day got even better for Ossett for on the hour. With Curzon goalkeeper Hakan Burton in no man’s land, Wakefield took full advantage by shooting from 30 yards.
Burton reached out for the ball, but only succeeded in diverting the ball into his own net.
Ossett held on for the final 30 minutes and celebrated an amazing win that puts them seven points adrift of a play-offs place.
In Division One South, Scarborough Athletic were beaten 2-1 at Sutton Coldfield – Gary Bradshaw scored for the Seadogs.
Goole lost 1-0 at Coalville Town.
Frickley Athletic gained an important 2-0 win at Stafford Rangers.
