Jimmy Eyles’ assent to Conference North level has been coming for a long time.
Eyles has been a revelation ever since he stepped his foot inside Ossett Town over a year ago.
His goal against Farsley AFC in January 2013, which can be seen on Youtube, cemented his place on the rising stars list.
A ‘hidden gem’ signed by Craig Elliott from Nostell Miners Welfare, the striker has turned out to be arguably Elliott’s best signing during his reign at Ingfield.
From his strike in the Farsley game, Eyles has gone on to continue to show his ability and his lob against Curzon Ashton in December is rated as one of the best goals in the Evo Stik Division One North this season.
Eyles deserves his chance to show what he can do on a higher pedestal and Bradford Park Avenue is good place to sign for. Under John Deacey, Nicky Boshell, Michael Duckworth (now of Scunthorpe United), Ross Daly and Paul Walker are four players who have been plucked from lower league and turned into Conference North players.
Eyles can be the next one.
There was a lot of gloom in the air at Wheatley Park on Tuesday night when Garforth Town performed terribly and let Knaresborough comfortably go through in the League Cup.
Graham Nicholas and his team received a bit of stick. Yes it is understandable, but the progress that the club have made this season should not be forgotten.
Garforth are stable on-and-off-the-pitch. Long gone are the days of 5-0 hammerings and no power and no beer in the ground.
The Miners have come a long way in a short space of time and Nicholas deserves a bit of patience while he overcomes his first real blip as head coach of Garforth.
Craig Elliott was a riled man this week after being hurt by social media comments alongside a confrontation during the 7-2 win over Teversal.
Shaw Lane boss Craig is one of the most hard-working managers locally. If he hasn’t got a game or training, he’s always watching a match somewhere looking for the next ‘hidden gem’.
The way a small minority have behaved has clearly upset him and he has every right to be. He has achieved a lot in just five years as a manager and there are people questioning his ability and morals.
He raised Glasshoughton Welfare from the ashes and won promotion and then turned Ossett from a bottom six team to play-offs contenders.
Craig deserves to be treated better.
