Former Huddersfield Town player Simon Baldry has come out of retirement to help Shaw Lane Aquaforce to win promotion to the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.
Since leaving the professional game in 2004, Baldry has played Non-League football for Ossett Town (two spells), Bradford Park Avenue and Guiseley before originally retiring at the start of the season.
Baldry, 38, played the first hour of Aquaforce’s 1-0 win at Pontefract Collieries and manager Craig Elliott believes the winger has the knowledge to help them to cross the finish line.
“I’m just trying to get players in who can give us experience for the run-in,” Elliott said.
“We need people who are proven and he may be able to give the experience to steady the ship when we have games where it is a bit tight.
“He played just once for Ossett Albion this season I think so I do know we may have to nurse him through matches.
“I was a little cautious about throwing him straight in on Saturday, but we’re not talking about a mug. He did alright. I didn’t expect him to last the game, but he has still kept himself fit.”
Elliott is still looking for a couple of new faces and hopes to have them for the visit of Shirebrook Town on Saturday to Shaw Lane.
