There’ll be no pyrotechnics just yet to celebrate the progress made by Harrogate Railway’s excellent season.
That’s because Billy Miller and his assistant Lee Ashforth want to add to their points tally in their last four games.
Railway will finish comfortably in mid-table in the Evo Stik Division One North table and Miller’s men look set to end up at least two places higher than last season’s 18th.
Harrogate will visit Kendal Town tomorrow and Miller is hoping his side can finish the campaign on a high note.
“When we came into the club we came with a three-year-plan,” he said.
“Last year was about staying in the league and making sure we didn’t finish in the bottom two which we achieved by the end of February or the beginning of March.
“This year has been more about consolidating our position and getting a better understanding of the players in the league.
“Our links with Harrogate Town are second to none. Simon Weaver has been really good to us and next season for us is about building on what we have done this season.
“We want to keep the young side together so that we have a bit of consistency and that we’re using the same 22 players rather than swapping and changes all the time.
“It’s been a great year for us and we need to kick on and finish the season off and ensure we pick up a few more points. We certainly deserve a few more points after how we played against Curzon.
“I said to the players in the changing room after the game that there is no point going to Kendal and rolling over just because it is further up the motorway.”
His assistant Ashforth added: “We set ourselves targets at the start of the season and we have hit those targets.
“Like Billy says we have four games left and we don’t see them as wanting to see the season out.
“We want to pick up points in those four games to see where it can take us.”
One of key reasons why Harrogate have done so well is because of goalkeeper Peter Crook’s form.
Crook, who was named in Sports Performer’s Team of the Season this week, is on-loan from Harrogate Town and Miller admits if the goalkeeper goes back to his parent club in the summer, it is a “blow”.
“It would be huge blow, but a lot will depend on where we go with Simon,” Miller added.
“We will sit down with Simon. Peter Crook’s form has come from consistently playing games. Alex Metcalfe is exactly the same.
“We’re really welcoming of the fact that Simon chooses us to blood his young players because the standard is really good.
“We have a great relationship with Town and me and Ash know it is so important to us because of the budget. What we lack in the budget we make it up by establishing links.”
