Simon Weaver believes highly-rated Harrogate Railway goalkeeper Peter Crook has the potential to go far in the game.
19-year-old Crook has spent the Evo Stik Division One North season on loan at Railway from Skrill North neighbours Harrogate Town.
He has also deputised for Town goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray when needed, but it is his form for Railway that earned him a whole host of plaudits and Town chief Weaver has been really pleased with his progress.
“He’s done really well,” Weaver told Sports Performer.
“I’ve been down (to Station View) a number of times, especially on Monday nights, to watch him and Alex Metcalfe amongst others.
“Peter has been outstanding this season. His development has been phenomenal. He was always a good ‘keeper and we saw raw ingredients, but now he is really coming into his own.
“We’ve said to all players that we will reflect on the season immediately, but he’s in our plans (for next season) without a shadow of a doubt.
“Craig (MacGillivray) has got potential to go higher and Peter has too. He’s a real man and only 19. The experience he has gained from Railway leaves him in good stead.”
Crook is just one of a number of players that have been dual-registered with both clubs since Billy Miller and Weaver established a link between them last season.
Last season Rob Youhill, MacGillivray and Craig Radcliffe were three who were registered for Railway and Town, while this year has seen Connor Sellars and Nathan Cartman, among others, appear in both colours.
Weaver is really pleased with how the link is working and he added: “Peter Crook’s just another example of what can be achieved by forging a relationship like we have got. .
“Both parties are winning. I’d like to think we have helped Harrogate Railway with several of our young players coming to them.
“They are helping to develop them. I get on extremely well with Billy Miller, we meet up every week for a drink.
“We have a discussion about our current players, their current players, systems, players from other levels and what’s required.
“It is really helping and I think it is helping the Town out as well.”
