Wakefield FC will play at the Welfare Ground next season
Wakefield FC are going back to their roots next season by ground-sharing with AFC Emley – 14 years after originally leaving the Welfare Ground.
Wakefield, formerly known as Emley AFC, have been forced out of the Evo Stik Division One North after failing to secure a suitable ground for next season by the deadline.
Under their old name, the club left the Welfare Ground in 2000 in a bid to win promotion to the Conference National and since played at Belle Vue, College Grove and at Ossett Town.
A joint statement from Wakefield and Emley said: “Wakefield FC has agreed a one-year ground sharing agreement to stage home games next season at The Welfare Ground, the home of AFC Emley.
“The agreement runs for an initial one season.
“Both clubs wish to place on record their thanks to the Trustees of the Emley Moor Miners Recreation Ground And Institute and the board of the Northern Counties East League for their assistance in reaching this agreement.”
AFC Emley are the reformed club which were formed in 2005.
