Non-League football legend Mark ‘Willy’ Wilson is back in the game after being announced as assistant to Chris Hilton, the new manager of Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Wilson, who celebrated playing his 900th Non-League match last year, was most recently the manager of West Riding County Amateur side Hall Green.
Wilson’s colourful 21-year career has taken him from Frickley Athletic to the likes of Farsley Celtic, Harrogate Town, Worksop Town, Buxton and both Ossett Albion and Town.
His most famous period is when he played for Emley in the FA Cup third round game with West Ham at Upton Park.
Hilton was appointed as the Steels’ new chief today and he replaces Darren Schofield.
Hilton was the manager at Worsbrough Bridge for four years until three weeks ago when he announced he was taking a break from football for family reasons.
On the appointment, Stocksbridge chairman Allen Bethel said: “We are delighted that Chris has accepted the post, he is an enthusiastic young manager who will believe will turn the club around and have us challenging for promotion in the near future.
“We were amazed at the response with well over 30 people applying for the job, it was impossible to interview everyone but we would like to thank all the applicants for their interest.”
