Ex-player Dominic Riordan is the new chairman of Evo Stik Division One North side Ossett Albion and there’s even the possibility of him being the club’s ‘player-chairman.
Riordan, whose brother James is also a well-known local player, has had three stints at Dimple Wells and takes up his new role with immediate effect.
His most successful period was during one of former manager and current Albion assistant Eric Gilchrist’s finest seasons in charge when in the 2007-08 campaign, Albion narrowly missed out on the old NPL Division One North play-offs.
Riordan, who is only 27, was a key centre-half in that team which also featured Scunthorpe United midfielder Dave Syers. He has also played for Ossett Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels, North Ferriby United and Bradford Park Avenue.
He recently put his ‘vision’ for the future to the Albion board and was elected by a unanimous decision.
Injuries have prevented Riordan from playing on a regular basis in the last year, but he will be registering as a player and will be available in emergencies.
Retiring Chairman Stephen Hanks said: “When I took over as Chairman I always said it was a caretaker’s role until the right person came along.
“I believe Dominic is that person and I had no hesitation stepping down when he expressed an interest in the position.
“Despite only being 27 he has a vast experience of football at this level and is extremely level headed. I am confident he will be an asset both to the club and the Evo Stik League.”
