He may have missed out on signing Jason Mycoe, but Barton Town Old Boys manager Dave Anderson has made a double scoop.
Anderson has now declared his squad almost “complete” for the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division campaign which kicks off on August 9th.
Barton, who finished as runners-up last season, have signed centre-half Niall Gibbs (Rossington Main) and left-sided player Nathan Smith (Bottesford Town).
Anderson had hoped to sign former Tadcaster Albion, Leeds Carnegie and Staveley Miners Welfare utility player Mycoe, but the ex-Leeds United youngster has chosen to join Evo Stik Division One North side Harrogate Railway.
On Mycoe, who played for Wakefield last season, Anderson said: “We have lost out on Jason which is disappointing.
“He played for us against Scarborough, but he wants to play at a higher level.”
Yorkshire Amateur have appointed Richard Addy as their new first team coach.
Ammers manager Phil Harding advertised for a coach over a month ago and former Liversedge coach Addy has got the job.
Worsbrough Bridge won 2-1 at local rivals Athersley Recreation yesterday.
In the wet conditions, it was the Bridge who set off the liveliest with Danny Cawley looking in good form again and new signing Brad Kerr also looking the part.
It was Declan Lycett who bagged the first goal for Bridge towards the end of the first half with the help of a deflection off midfielder Rob Adgie.
The second half started with Athersley on top for the first 10 minutes and having two corners in quick succession which were dealt with by Bridge.
Keeper Jared Oxley was in top form with a string of quality saves.
The second goal for Bridge came from great ball from Jimmy Middleton to Rob Adgie down the right who pulled the ball down with immense skill and laid off to Brad Kerr to drive a shot across the Rec ‘keeper.
It looked like Bridge were always going to win until Rec pulled one back with nine minutes to go. But the tempo and pressure from the well organised Bridge side held the home side at bay to take the victory.
Worsbrough will host Retford United on Wednesday night.
Worsbrough team against Athersley: Oxley, Middleton, Barker, Broadbent, Laight (captain), Lycett, Adgie, Kokot, Kerr, Cawley, Colton. Subs: Bouffon, Thorpe, Joyce.
