Glasshoughton Welfare manager Jon Miles has openly admitted his disappointment at goalkeeper Paul Hagreen’s departure to Knaresborough Town.
Hagreen was one of four Glasshoughton players who decided to move from Leeds Road to the Toolstation NCEL Division One side last week.
Liam Tuck, Hilliard Serrao, Joel Freeston and Hagreen have all joined their former manager Rob Hunter at Knaresborough.
The quartet and Hunter will return to Leeds Road on August 16th for the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie between the two teams and Miles said: “The only one we’re upset about is Paul.
“I was sad to see him leave.
“I’m a bit disappointed he has opted to leave.
“I know we’re not going to any great shakes and we’re not going to be pushing to win this league, but we’ve finished 16th in the last two years and we’re certainly pushing for higher than that.
“As a 19-year-old, I don’t see why he’s dropped down a division.”
Since beginning pre-season training a month ago, Miles has built the majority of his squad.
Miles and his assistant Mark Kellett have concentrated efforts on putting together a team made up of local players.
Long-serving utility player James Beaston returns as does Reece Chappell.
Most of the players that Miles brought to the club during his 12 game stint as caretaker manager have done as well.
Andy Seed, Jimmy Williams, Josh Barratt, Del Pollock, Adam Walsh and Josh Prudhoe will all line-up for Glasshoughton next month.
Blaine Kellett has also returned from Nostell Miners Welfare.
Reagan Fisher and Josh Morley have arrived from Harrogate Town so the squad is almost complete.
“We’re just struggling for a goalkeeper as we’ve ticked all the other boxes,” Miles said.
“We have a player for most positions and there’s a lot on holiday at the minute so they’re not signed on the dotted line.
“They’re local lads who want to play for us here.
“We just need to fill a few more numbers as cover and I’m quite happy about where it is going.”
One player who has yet to decide whether he will return is last season’s captain Darrell Young.
Young’s campaign was dogged by disciplinary problems and ended with a 112 day ban from NCEL football.
He is available to return in late August and Miles is hoping he does.
“Darrell Young is still under suspension so he hasn’t made his mind up about what he wants to do yet,” he added.
“He’s available to play from the 22nd August.
“I’m hoping he comes back and we’re trying his revive his interest by getting him back to the player he was rather the player people wanted him to be.
“He’s played at this level for ten years as a centre-forward and all of a sudden people tried to turn him into a centre-half or centre-midfielder.
“We’re going to get him back as centre-forward, doing what he does best.
