Stocksbridge Park Steels chief Chris Hilton wants to turn Bracken Moor into a fortress.
Worsbrough Bridge, under Hilton, were almost unbeatable at home during the final two seasons of the new Steels manager’s reign.
Bridge went undefeated at home in the 2012-13 campaign and lost just four times last season, but beat Shaw Lane Aquaforce and drew with champions Cleethorpes and third-placed Bottesford.
Hilton says that Worsbrough became an “intimidating place” for teams and that he would love to repeat the trick at Bracken Moor.
Asked why his Worsbrough team were so strong at home, Hilton told Non League Yorkshire: “It might because of the mentality I had from playing at Frickley for so many years.
“Even when I played a season here (at Stocksbridge) and went to Belper and Sheffield Club, you have to win your home games and pick up as many wins as possible away from home.
“Going unbeaten at home for a whole season, no matter what level you’re at, is a great achievement and one I’m very proud of.
“To lose four times in two and half years at home is the type of mentality we need to try and get here.
“We need teams thinking ‘oh we’re playing at Stocksbridge at their place, we’re on a downer already’.
“That’s what we have got to try and do here, but that only comes with hard work.”
Stocksbridge will kick off the Evo Stik Division One South season at Norton United on August 16th.
The Steels will then face home games with Lincoln United and Sutton Coldfield Town.
Hilton added: “Fixtures are fixtures, you have to play everyone twice.
“Looking at it though, it’s a reasonable start.
“You wouldn’t say we had any of the big hitters or money men early on, but every game is going to be hard.
“It’s a chance to have a good start to the season.”
