Dave Mace hopes Thursday night’s friendly with a Chesterfield X1 will raise vital funds for his club.
The new Worsbrough Bridge boss is leading a “rebuilding” job this season in the Toolstation NCEL Division One after replacing Chris Hilton two months ago.
Mace hopes the friendly (kick off 7.30pm) will help them compete in NCEL. He said: “They said they would send the strongest side possible.
“We played them about six weeks ago at their place and they said would strong side to see if we can some bring money in.”
Mace has lost the bulk of last season’s squad to Stocksbridge Park Steels and a few to Retford United – leading striker Lee Garside has gone to the Steels.
But he is confident that Bridge can still enjoy a competitive campaign in the NCEL – which starts on August 9th at last season’s Premier Division whipping boys Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Mace added: “It’s hard because we have 13 new lads and we need to start gelling quicker.
“We’ll be ok, I’m sure we will. I’m not saying we’re going to go the season without losing at home again, but we’ll give a good account of themselves.
“It’s not going to back to the bad old days at Worsbrough.
“We have lost 13 out of 16 players. It is a massive rebuild, but they have trained hard during pre-season and the friendlies will do them the world of good.
“With the group of players we have got, we’ll do alright.
“It’s going to be a young side. Going back to teams who pay, we haven’t got that kind of finance.
“If I did want anyone, it has to be someone who actually wants to play football and not doing it for the money.”
