Name: Sam Dobbs
Age: 28
Occupation: Personal Trainer
Current club: Ossett Town
Previous Clubs: Northallerton Town, Nostell MW, Rainworth MW, Harrogate Railway, Wakefield FC
Best Mates in football: I go for lunch with Oli Johnson quite a bit as he is always injured. Richard Patterson is a great lad, although I preferred his brother Daniel before he moved clubs. I have also been seen out for dinner and at the races with James Rogers (Ossett Town chairman) and his lovely family, but this is just mere speculation.
Career highlight and most memorable game: Winning the Presidents Cup final away at Scarborough for Nostell MW was a great achievement. Scarborough were massive favourites as they had nearly 1000 fans there that night, they were top of the league with a huge budget and we were under huge pressure for most of the match. We scored the winner in injury time and the scenes of celebration were amazing.
Lowest moment in football: Danny Highley, a very good friend of mine, broke his leg away at Pickering on a Tuesday night. There was a hole in my glove where he bit through it due to the pain. That was an emotional night but we won the game 1-0. The team spirit to make sure we won the game was superb.
What do you hope to achieve in your future football career? As a goalkeeper I hope I am still improving as 28 is relatively young. I think coaching would be an obvious avenue when I retire.
Funniest moment: This is where my team mates over the years would probaly have a lot to say! Personally I would think it would be when we played Warrington away and a rather loud chant of ‘You’re just a s**t Paddy Kenny started doing the rounds. I was a bit gutted with that as I feel I’m a bit better than Paddy Kenny……..
