Ossett Albion head into the opening fixture of the Evo Stik Division One North campaign full of confidence after beating Stocksbridge Park Steels 3-0 at Dimple Wells.
Stocksbridge are the exact opposite as the defeat rounded off a disastrous seven days which began with the 3-0 humbling at Handsworth Parramore last Saturday.
The Steels could then only manage a 2-2 draw at Worsbrough Bridge on Wednesday.
The Ossett loss gives manager Chris Hilton plenty of cause for concern ahead of next week’s first day fixture at Norton United in Division One South.
Ossett, though, go to Prescot Cables in the right mindset after a positive pre-season.
A penalty gave Albion the lead on 40 minutes. David Brown converted after Dale Kelly was fouled by the Stocksbridge goalkeeper.
Mickey Nelson and Kelly completed the win in the second half.
