Two-week break may help Shaw Lane Aquaforce – Craig Elliott

Shaw Lane Aquaforce manager Craig Elliott believes his side’s two-week break will help players return to fitness

The two-week break can work to Shaw Lane Aquaforce’s advantage, according to Craig Elliott.
Aquaforce, who are not eligible for the FA Cup this season, are not in Toolstation NCEL Premier Division until August 23 when they will host Pickering Town.
Lee Morris could return from injury, while Jimmy Eyles could be back to full-fitness so Elliott believes it could work in their favour.
“It has just stopped a bit of momentum,” said Elliott, whose side beat Tadcaster Albion last Saturday.
“If we had won, like we did, you can’t wait for the next game. If we had lost, it would have been a long time to wait.
“With the weather been great, you want to get games on board.
“We’re going to have a few hard training sessions and let them have a few days off.
“We were carrying a few knocks going into the Tadcaster game.
“Jimmy shouldn’t have played as he’s had a virus and a couple of the other lads have had injuries so it will give them time to get fit.
“(With Jimmy) It may take ten to 14 days before he’s at level where he and I’ll be happy with.
“He has been on holiday for ten days and come back with a virus.
“I didn’t really want to use him at Tadcaster, but the game changed so I was forced into bringing him on.”
Elliott has built up an impressive strike-force – which he admits.
He has also reserved praise for Joe Thornton, who was signed from Athersley Recreation in the summer.
“It is exciting and it’s options.
“Any good manager would tell you that you need good options and that’s what I’ve got.
“I think they all have good attributes and I would like to say that I thought Joe Thornton was outstanding at Tadcaster.
“He played right, centre, left and he was superb for the team.”
