Craig Elliott praised his Shaw Lane Aquaforce team for their response to the enforced two-week break in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.
Shaw Lane won at Tadcaster on the opening day before having to sit out for 14 days while the rest of the league took part in FA Cup action.
Aquaforce returned to action with a bang last Saturday by thrashing Pickering Town 6-0 and then comfortably seeing off Staveley Miners Welfare in midweek.
“I’m not going to lie, I was a bit concerned about keeping people sharp,” Elliott said.
“I think it showed in the first 20 minutes on Saturday that we hadn’t had a game for two weeks.
“But, to be fair to the lads, we have won two matches convincingly.
“I don’t want to be disrespectful to the teams we have played, but I just think we have been clinical.
“Both second halves in both matches have been a bit of a anti-climax, but there’s going to be many harder tests to come.”
With the FA Cup Preliminary Round taking place tomorrow, Aquaforce have the chance to go top of the table if they win at Thackley.
Elliott added: “It is a matter of getting points on the board as early as you can.
“Other teams are in the FA Cup and we have to make it count as we’re not in the FA Cup.
“All we can do is get a bit of an advantage over everyone else.
“Thackley have always been a decent team at this level and any away fixture is hard.”
