Joint manager Duncan Bray believes there is more to come from Pontefract Collieries.
Pontefract have built themselves an excellent platform for success this season in the Toolstation NCEL Division One compared with last season.
Pontefract are chasing the elusive promotion they have been hunting for many years and have won two and drawn one of their opening three league matches.
Bray told Non League Yorkshire: “Performance-wise, not very good, but results-wise superb.
“The Selby game was the best we had played. We have been nowhere as good as we can be.
“After three games to get seven points and be unbeaten, we have got to be happy with that.
“In terms of performances, we can be a lot better than what we have shown so far.
“Last year, we started with a few defeats and it was four or five games before we picked up a win.
“Even when we went on that 17 game unbeaten run, we were still nowhere near the top two.
“The top two didn’t slip up many times so there was no catching them. This year if we can keep the pace with the top two or three, we will be there or abouts.”
Pontefract host Worsbrough Bridge tomorrow afternoon at Skinner Lane – the first of two meetings between the sides in two weeks as Ponte will head to South Yorkshire next week for the FA Vase encounter.
Bray added: “We have a load in our changing room who have played for Worsbrough so it is a bit of a local derby for us.
“I can’t remember the last time we got an easy game out of them. We normally scrape a win here and we’re always lucky to pick up a point at Worsbrough.
“I expect another tough game.”
