A lack of match fitness in Knaresborough Town’s main forwards is hurting them, according to Brian Davey.
Top striker Colin Heath, Hilliard Serrao and Seb Carole are all coming back from injury and Davey also has Joel Freeston on the treatment table.
The problems were all there to be seen in the lacklustre 1-0 defeat to AFC Emley on Tuesday night and Davey, whose side visit Chester Le Street in the FA Vase tomorrow, said: “I don’t think we are sharp enough in front of goal.
“Seb has come back from injury so has Colin and we have Hilly coming back from injury.
“I think we are two or three weeks away from getting all our forwards fully fit.
“Everyone knows that when Colin Heath is fit, he is a different player to when he is not fit.
“We brought Hilly on to get some fitness and until we get them all fully fit, we’re not going to get the best out of the strike-force.
“The players at the club who are injured are all forwards.
“The more games we get out of Colin, the more games we get out of Seb and the more games we get out of Hilly, the sharpness will go up.
“They’re only going to get sharp by playing games. The FA Vase is a good chance to do that.”
The Toolstation NCEL Division One defeat was their first league loss of the campaign.
Emley scored early on in the second half through former Harrogate Railway player Alex Hallam and Davey added: “I’m very disappointed.
“In the second half of the game we dominated possession, but didn’t look like scoring.
“Colin is struggling for fitness, but we got in some great positions to put the ball in the box and haven’t done.
“We didn’t create any chances.”
