Bridlington Town have proved that the Northern League giants can be beaten, according to Gary Allanson.
Bridlington have taken Northern League scalps in opening two FA Cup rounds after beating Northallerton Town and FA Vase kings Whitley Bay.
Brid, who head to Newcastle Benfield tomorrow, beat Bay in the Extra Preliminary Round replay with a last minute goal in controversial circumstances.
But, Allanson admits his side have upset the applecart this year and said: “From our league’s point of view, our managers and our teams, they have to believe and (beating Whitley Bay) was one for our league.
“It was not just for our club, it was to say to the league ‘look we can compete with the Northern League teams when we need to.
“I get the vibe that NCEL clubs believe they can’t beat Northern League clubs and I think history tells it’s own story.
“We and other teams in our league haven’t done well against Northern League teams. They are big and strong and they don’t do as much travelling as ourselves.”
Looking ahead to the trip to Newcastle for the first qualifying round clash which is worth £3,000, he added: “We’re the underdogs, as we always will be against Northern League clubs, but hopefully we can get that turned round.
“It’s (FA Cup run) given everyone a massive boost from the chairman, the supporters, the coaching staff and to players and we want to give it a real good go tomorrow.”
