Frickley Athletic manager Karl Rose was disappointed with the way his side conceded and said his men didn’t deal with Lewis Nightingale quick enough
Karl Rose rued two sloppy goals that sent Frickley Athletic crashing out of the FA Cup in the 2-1 defeat at Evo Stik Division One North side Farsley AFC yesterday.
A Danny South own goal and a Robbie O’Brien strike gave Frickley a mountain to climb in the first qualifying round tie at Throstle Nest.
Rose highlighted Lewis Nightingale who unlocked his side and said his men didn’t deal with his threat early enough.
“I think the two goals we conceded in the ten minutes before half-time killed us,” Rose told Non League Yorkshire.
“We gave it a good go in the second half, but it wouldn’t drop for us. I think there were a few scuffles and melees which didn’t go our way.
“We didn’t really test the goalkeeper though as we had a few long range shots straight down his throat.
“We scored the goal five minutes too late to really have a go at them late-on.
“I’m disappointed with the two goals we conceded.
“The first one was an own goal (from a free kick) and you have to defend it better.
“The second one was from a midfield runner which is unlike us and Nightingale really hurt us.
“He’s a clever player who comes inside and the full-back drives on.
“We got the instruction out to close him down quicker and we didn’t do that in the first half.
“It took until half-time for us to sit down and got the message across. In the second half, I don’t think he really hurt us.”
Frickley have endured a dreadful opening eight games to the Evo Stik Premier Division campaign.
The South Elmsall based side have won just once of them and are bottom of the table on goals difference.
Rose, who even said on Friday that lower league Farsley were favourites for the game, host FC United of Manchester on Tuesday night and he says they have to pick themselves up.
“We’re very disheartened,” he added.
“We knew they were a good side and were flying high in the league and they’re used to winning as they were unlucky not to get promoted last year.
“They have a bigger budget than us and we know what we’re about.
“We’re disappointed to go out of the cup as we wanted a break from the league and wanted to generate some funds for the club and get some momentum into our season as it has been a difficult start.
“We’re gutted to go out, but we have to bounce back for Tuesday night.
“Credit to the lads for giving it a good go and on a different day it may have dropped and we have been taking them back to our place for a replay.”
