Brad Kerr won’t play for Worsbrough Bridge for the “foreseeable future” after his red card during the 1-1 draw with Selby Town.
Kerr is staring down the barrel of an investigation and lengthy ban after being sent off on the stroke of half-time because of an inappropriate comment made to Selby’s Nathan Kamara.
Kamara was sent off himself at half-time in the Toolstation NCEL Division One encounter after leaping over the barrier when the whistle sounded for the interval.
The former Garforth Town midfielder then attempted to gain entry to the Worsbrough dressing room to confront Kerr before being stopped.
Worsbrough manager Dave Mace, who declined to discuss the length of ban that Kerr may face, told Non League Yorkshire: “As a club we have to do something about it (Kerr).
“As for Tuesday (the game against Hemsworth) he won’t be playing and certainly won’t be for the foreseeable future.
“I wouldn’t try and defend it.
“If what the referee has said he said is true then the club will come down like a ton of bricks on him.”
The incident is a huge stain on the progress that Kerr has made this season.
Kerr’s form for Worsbrough earned him a six-week trial with Barnsley and Mace added: “Brad has been great and he was the top goal-scorer at one point.
“There has been immense pressure because he has gone to Barnsley and had packed his job in.
“He needs to learn to cool down because he’s a bit hot-headed.”
Mace’s opposite number Selby manager Dave Ricardo defended Kamara’s behaviour and said he hoped that the West Riding County FA will review his red card.
“Kamara has reacted at half-time which he shouldn’t have done,” said Ricardo, who said he did not see Kamara charge towards the home dressing room when the whistle sounded.
“I can see why he has, but it wasn’t the most pleasant scenes and it has taken the gloss off the game.
“There were circumstances surrounding his red card which I hope the league take on board and will understand.
“We are all humans and when we suffer that kind of abuse then we can’t say how we are going to react until it actually happens.”
The report, photos and the rest of the reaction from the game will be on Non League Yorkshire tomorrow morning at 9am.
