He’s back: Paul Lines is aiming to turn Nostell Miners Welfare’s fortunes around

Paul Lines has promised that the only way is up for Nostell Miners Welfare.
The winds of change have blown at Crofton today after former Wakefield chief Simon Turfrey was installed as their new chairman and Lines was appointed as their first team manager.
The pair kept Wakefield afloat on and off-the-pitch for three years until this summer when the club folded.
Mr Turfrey was recently given a role at Ossett Albion, but he has chosen to help lead a new era at Nostell with Lines.
Even with the changes, Nostell will continue to operate with no budget and former Yorkshire Amateur and Ossett Town manager Lines admits his first target is avoiding relegation.
When asked what attracted him to Nostell, Lines told Non League Yorkshire: “The infrastructure and the potential to build a good team.
“The facilities are fantastic, there’s everything that you want. A 3g pitch, a main pitch which has had a lot of money spent on it, a nice clubhouse with a weights room.
“There’s not a lot of work to do if you wanted to go into the Evo Stik.
“It was a no-brainer (to take the job) for me.
“We have everything here that we wanted at Wakefield. At other clubs I’ve been at, we always had to worry about where we were training from week to week.
“Here it is not an issue and if we do a job like we (me and Simon) did at Wakey then we’ll start climbing the table.”
His old assistant Stephen Crilly won’t be joining him in the same role so Lines has turned to predatory striker Rob Bordman to combine playing with the assistant manager position.
Handsworth Parramore will be their first test in the NCEL League Cup second round tomorrow night and Lines admits that he has been eager to return to the game.
‘I wasn’t missing it at first, but in the last three weeks I’ve been looking around and I’ve got my hunger back,” he added.
“This job is appealing and I like the feel of the place and I like the people around the club.
“I’ve been going around and watching various games looking at players which is not always possible when you’re managing.
“I’ve learnt a lot and it has been nice to re-energise because I haven’t had a break in ages.”
Lines intends on giving all the current Nostell players a chance to impress.
He also stressed that anyone interested in playing or sponsoring Nostell should contact him via the club.
