Title favourites Tadcaster Albion gave their 200 travelling fans a night to remember by sensationally thrashing Armthorpe Welfare 10-0.

Champions League winner Jonathan Greening and Carl Stewart both got hat-tricks on a remarkable evening for the NCEL’s fastest-growing club.

Josh Barrett (2), Vincent Dhesi and David Brown ensured the victory which levels their biggest ever away victory – a drumming of Bildworth Welfare in the 1997-98 season.

Paul Marshall, who was on the receiving end of a 10-0 defeat to Eric Gilchrist’s Liversedge in the early stages of his reign at Harrogate Railway, said: “We thoroughly deserved because we played some absolutely wonderful football.

“It was unbelievable. I’m so made up for all the players.

“We have such a great squad of players, it is untrue.

“It has been a perfect night. Their manager said we were the best side they have played this year.

“That’s a compliment in itself because it (a 10-0 defeat) is hard to take, but I’ve been there as a manager.”

Tadcaster selected the Armthorpe game as a supporters night out and they have been urging people to travel with them for weeks.

The dream became a reality for them and the large crowd also helped raise £104 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity – the same charity that Shaw Lane chairman Craig Wood raised £10,000 for.

The travelling support watched their side go nine points clear at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division and Marshall added: “I think everyone loved it so let’s hope they all come back to Tad on Saturday.”
