Hallam could escape the bottom two of the Toolstation NCEL Division One table if they beat Dronfield on Saturday following a 7-2 win over basement club Grimsby Borough.
Ryan Hindley’s revival of the world famous club continues after goals from Jack Hargreaves (2), Simon Mirfin, Tom Fairweather, James Reed, Daniel Flynn and Nicky Owen secured an important win.
Selby Town put themselves one win away from entering the top ten by beating Louth Town 3-1.
Liam Wilkin got a brace and Steve Norton got the other goal.
Yorkshire Amateur’s fine campaign continued with an excellent 4-2 win on the road at Dronfield Town.
Phil Harding’s Ammers came from behind twice with Jahsai Donaldson, Craig Heard, Carl Heard and Tom Rose scoring.
Charlie Flaherty scored a late consolation as Eccleshill United lost 3-1 to Bottesford Town.
In the Premier Division, two goals from Daniel Abdulla earned Parkgate a 2-1 win over Pickering Town.
The match proved to be Mitch Cook’s last game in charge of Pickering.
Albion Sports beat Athersley Recreation 2-1.
Frickley Athletic eased into the Doodson Sport Cup with a 2-0 victory at FA Cup heroes Blyth Spartans in the Doodson Sport Cup first round.
Reece Thompson and Danny South scored two early goals.
Two late goals secured Brighouse Town their progression at the expense of Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Harrison Biggins had given the Steels the lead before a Tom Matthews penalty and Billy Law strike put Brighouse through.
Farsley AFC won 2-0 at Scarborough Athletic – Luke Porrit and Aiden Savory scored.
Ossett Town lost 5-3 at Sheffield FC, but there were positives to take.
Youngster Tom Smith, who only signed forms on Monday, scored two goals for Ossett.
Ossett Albion bowed out of the cup at the first hurdle when they lost 0-3 at home to Spennymoor Town.
With both sides showing numerous changes in their line-ups this game was always going to be an unknown quantity.
Spennymoor started at a fast pace and created a couple of early chances. Then Albion began to get into their stride and started to pass the ball with more effect. Unfortunately they still failed to have the finishing touch. This has been lacking all season and is preventing them from collecting the points that their build-up play merits.
Neither defence was seriously threatened in the first half and the teams went in on level terms at the interval.
The second half started with Albion forcing the pace and they created a few chances but again lacked the finishing touch.
Spennymoor then upped their pace and began to run and pass the ball with confidence. Gradually the pressure built up on Albion and in the 67th minute the breakthrough came. A floated corner-kick was fired into the net by Nathan Fisher to give visitors the lead.
This gave Spennymoor more confidence and they continued to play with pace and accuracy. Albion didn’t give up and pressed hard for an equaliser. With 2 minutes of normal time remaining Albion gave the ball away from a poorly taken corner. Spennymoor raced upfield, and with most of the Albion defenders out of position, they had little difficulty in extending their lead with Peter Brown providing the finish.
Then, just to rub salt in the wound, they added a third goal when Ben Sayer scored in the 3rd minute of added time. This gave a scoreline that didn’t do justice to Albion’s efforts.
In the East Riding Senior Cup second round, Bridlington Town won 3-1 at Pocklington.
Tyler Collishaw, Chris Adams and Jarrod Smalley scored.
