Paul Lines is starting a ‘pre-season’ campaign tonight as he bids to lead Nostell Miners Welfare out of the relegation mire.
Nostell are a few days into an enforced 17-day break from Toolstation NCEL Premier Division action which has given Lines a big opportunity to put his players through their paces.
Nostell’s next game is against Pickering Town on December 2nd at Crofton.
Whilst pleased with some of his side’s play in the 2-1 defeat to Armthorpe, Lines saw plenty of room for improvement.
“We’re looking at developing the team as a whole, strength-wise, fitness-wise because I think we are lacking in certain areas,” he said.
“Some energy levels aren’t the best so that needs to be addressed.
“We have a 17-day break and we’re going to have a little mini-pre-season.
“Some people have to shape up.
“We’re going to be working hard. We’re going to be working with the ball, but we’re going to be working fitness levels and core strength and stability.
“Some of it was a bit lacking on Saturday so we need to work on and that sort it out.
“When we play Pickering, we’ll be in a better condition than we are now. We’ll be fitter.”
Lines took charge of Nostell last week after Darren Holmes’ departure and he immediately made his mark with six signings.
Rob Bordman’s arrival as player/assistant was stunning to say the least and he was followed by James Burgess, Greg Porter, Darrell Kendall, Liam Gowen and Stefan Connor.
Lines, who expects some more to sign this week, added: “The phone has been red hot with people making an interest and wanting to come down.
“I’ve also had a lot of goodwill messages from other managers, saying ‘welcome back into the game’.”
