A week after taking on the likes of German giants Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller, Farsley AFC striker Adam Priestley continued his hot streak with his side’s goal in the 1-1 draw with play-offs rivals Spennymoor Town.
Gibraltar striker Priestley was Farsley’s most dangerous player in the Evo Stik Division One North clash at Throstle Nest.
He scored, hit the post and narrowly missed out on adding to his tally in the second half – seconds before substitute Gavin Cogden equalised for Spennymoor Town.
Priestley arrived back from International duty with Gibraltar on Saturday and scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Burscough.
Farsley were quick out of the blocks and created a number of chances in the opening stanza.
Priestley rattled the woodwork first before Farsley captain Robbie O’Brien was denied twice.
Spennymoor enjoyed a brief period of control. Andrew Stephenson saw a header deflected over the crossbar, while Chris Mason’s volley was tipped over the crossbar by Tom Taylor.
But, Farsley deserved to be ahead and as the half hour mark passed, the breakthrough was made.
O’Brien’s header opened the door and Priestley expertly turned and scored with a low drive – his tenth goal of the campaign.
Spennymoor made two substitutions early in the second half and Cogden was the most effective of the pair.
The visitors looked more dangerous – certainly on the counter attack and the winger went close minutes after his introduction.
The game changed within a 30 second period midway through the second half.
Priestley made a good run and ignored the run of Luke Porritt down the left-wing to go it alone with a powerful drive which flashed wide of the left-hand post.
Spennymoor then capitalised on poor defending as Cogden drove the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.
Both sides finished the game looking threatening and capable of conjuring up a dramatic late winner.
A silly handball by Joseph Tait presented Farsley with a free kick outside the 18-yard-box at the death. Hands were in mouths as Lewis Nightingale agonisingly sent the ball round the wrong side of the post.
The draw, a fair result, keeps fifth-placed Farsley five points ahead of Spennymoor.
