Karl Rose slammed his Frickley side after their 7-1 thrashing at Harrogate Railway

“Embarrassing” was how Karl Rose summed up Frickley Athletic’s 7-1 thumping at lower-league Harrogate Railway in the Doodson Sport Cup.

Rose made four changes from their 4-0 victory over Trafford in the Evo Stik Premier Division on Saturday, but he watched on helpless as his side collapsed at Station View.

It was a horrible night for Frickley and when asked to sum up his feelings, Rose told Non League Yorkshire: “I think it was embarrassing.

“We rested quite a few of the lads and the lads who have come in and staked a claim to try and get in the first team were obviously a million miles off.

“The quicker we draw a line under that the better. We have to bounce back and the positives that we have four or five to come back in.

“It was a very inept performances so changes will be made for Saturday.

“I’m very disappointed and I take responsibility.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have changed it because they have been an embarrassment to themselves, the club and to me.

“I can’t pull any positives out of any player out there from one to eleven.”

There was nothing to indicate such a poor performance was coming when the second round tie was goal-less after half an hour.

A Jameel Ible own goal opened the floodgates and Malachi Farquharson went on to score four times alongside solitary strikes from Adam Baker and Nathan Cartman.

Rose added: “There wasn’t much in the game and then the first one went in stupidly from a corner.

“We should have defended it better. The second one was from our corner and they caught us on the break.

“The third one was from a corner and for the second half I said to go out there and show some pride and compete.

“There was none of that in the second half. The towel went in and that’s not one of my sides so I have to address that quickly.

“Everybody is angry and hurt and we can’t wait to get back into training tomorrow (Tuesday) to put it right.

“The back four had played on Saturday and kept four clean sheets in six, but to capitulate like that was very poor.”
