Simpson “one for the future” – Nicholas

Graham Nicholas believes Garforth Town have signed a player for the future in Mark Simpson.

Leeds-based Simpson has signed for Garforth after a brief spell with Nostell Miners Welfare which saw him help them off the foot of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table.

Nicholas has always strode to sign players from Leeds and he admitted that the striker, who has also played for Pontefract, has a long term future at Wheatley Park.

“I saw that he scored six goals in eight games and I put seven days’ notice in for him straightaway,” Nicholas told Non League Yorkshire.

“I rate him very highly and he will be a massive part of my team.

“He’s a local lad and he’s the type of player we want to attract to the club.

“I’ve told him this, but he reminds me of a good friend of mine – Pete Johnson – in that he is quick and has an eye for goal.

“He gets into dangerous positions. He played out of position on Tuesday night because I wanted to have a look to see if he could give something else.

“He did a fantastic job out (against Silsden). In the future he is my number nine and that’s what we have been lacking.

“We have been lacking that type of player upfront. A player who not only holds the ball up, but can turn and be direct and can score goals.

“He’s here for the long term, but it is up to him now.”
