Graham Nicholas has revised his season aims for Garforth Town to a top ten finish.

Nicholas stated during pre-season that he wanted to win the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title.

Despite a positive start to the season, Garforth have fallen well short of those lofty goals and find themselves in 11th place.

“The aim is to finish as high as up the league as possible,” Nicholas told Non League Yorkshire.

“I think at the start of the season if you get players that are committed, you get that consistency.

“I don’t regret saying at the start of the season that we want to win the league because I know this squad is as good as any team in the top five.

“I think we proved it against Heanor Town and Shaw Lane, but where it falls short is when you come up against Nostell and Armthorpe and drawing those games.

“That’s because you’re missing key players and that is something to do with the budget and work commitments.

“That’s what we’re up against. I would say that we have to try and break into the top ten and it would be great to do it.

“It would improve on last season and that’s our ambition – to finish in the top ten and to win some silverware.

“We’re still in the League Cup, but we’re in the semi-final of the West Riding County Cup so I’m focussing on it.”

Garforth head into a home game with Liversedge tomorrow full of confidence after the County Cup quarter-finals win over Silsden.

Looking back at Tuesday night, Nicholas said: “I was absolutely delighted.

“Before the game I was hoping that we played like that.

“We can play really well and I’ve always said that on our day we can beat anyone.

“We had energy and passed the ball around well and showed that when we are attacking.

“For the neutral it was a great spectacle and that’s what you expect in a quarter-final.

“We threw caution to the wind a little bit more. We got the goal before half-time and kept the momentum going in the second half.”
