Rose to field big guns for cup clash

Frickley manager Karl Rose has promised to field the strongest team possible tomorrow night against Hemsworth

Frickley manager Karl Rose has promised to field the strongest team possible tomorrow night against Hemsworth

Frickley boss Karl Rose won’t be taking any chances when Hemsworth Miners Welfare arrive in town for the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup quarter-final tie tomorrow night.

Frickley face a banana-skin game against high-flying Hemsworth, who are three leagues lower.

Rose will not be taking Hemsworth lightly and intends to field the strongest team possible.

The Frickley chief is keen to avoid another “embarrassing” defeat after last week’s 7-1 thrashing at Harrogate Railway.

Rose said: “It is a big game.

“The fans support us week-in-week-out and it gives us the opportunity to go to Hillsbrough and give them a day out.

“We have won there and lost there so we will be trying to win tomorrow.

“The one thing I have learnt from last Monday is that there won’t be many changes.

“I’ll be picking a team to win the game.

“It’s a local derby and I know Wayne Benn and he’ll be telling them it is their cup final.

“We have to turn up with the same mentality.”

Rose is aiming to lead Frickley to their fourth successive Hillsborough final.

Rose has taken charge of the last two – he won the first one against Sheffield FC, but surprisingly lost the second final to Athersley Recreation.

The defeat in May was a huge shock and Rose added: “I would have said that we are a lot better side this season than we were at the end of last season.

“I was gutted at Hillsborough last season and I said to the lads after that it wouldn’t happen again and if we get to a cup final again, we’re going to win it.

“Regardless of Athersley, I want to repaid the supporters for their support this season (by getting to Hillsborough again).”

Reece Thompson is expected to return for Frickley after being suspended for the last few matches.

Max Leonard is cup-tied.
