Nathan Cartman’s last gasp equaliser earned Harrogate Railway a deserved point in their 1-1 draw with Spennymoor Town at Station View.

The points ends their run of eight straight victories in all competitions, but puts their unbeaten record up to nine games.

Spennymoor had the better of the first half chances in the Evo Stik Division One North encounter and Liam Henderson was able to put his side ahead early on.

Railway goalkeeper Tom Goodwin then had to deny efforts from Michael Roberts and Gavin Cogdon.

Having scored in every single game this season, Rail were never going to throw in the towel.

Cartman had already had one effort cleared off-the-line before Goodwin provided the assist for the leveller.

Cartman latched onto the long clearance and saw goalkeeper Adam McHugh racing out of his goal.

The striker got round him and somehow slotted home his 34th goal of the season from a difficult angle to cue scenes of jubilation.

Harrogate manager Billy Miller said: “What a great result for us, despite being behind.

“I never thought we were out of the game. Spennymoor are a very good side, well-drilled and they have some outstanding players.

“But I think we always knew that we would create one or two chances during the game.

“When the chance fell to Carts and he went round the ‘keeper, even from a tight angle, you knew if anyone could finish it, he could.

“We went for the win and so did they. So over the course of the 90 minutes, a draw was a fair result.”
