Craig Elliott said his Shaw Lane Aquaforce had to beat leaders Tadcaster Albion last night in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

Aquaforce completed the double over their title rivals with a 1-0 win to move into second place with three games in hand.

Lee Morris’ second half goal was the difference and Elliott said: “It was a brilliant win – that’s all what mattered tonight.

“I don’t think the performance mattered, it was all about winning and trying to claw back the points.

“It was a difficult game and I’m sure both will agree that the pitch didn’t help.

“It is obviously not great and I’m not happy about it because it spoiled the style of football us and Tadcaster play.

“It could have been a great game, but on the flanks it is impossible to play. It is difficult going against your beliefs of passing to just getting it in the right areas.

“It is what it is and we have overcome that barrier and won so I’m happy.

“I felt there was always going to be one goal in it.”

Shaw Lane finished the game with nine men after Gary Stoher and Steve Istead were sent off for second bookable offences.

Tom Claisse sent red for Taddy and Elliott added: “Trying to think about the sending-offs, I think they were probably right and I thought the referee had a good game.

“I honestly didn’t see the first one (Tom Claisse’s red card), I’m not doing an Arsene Wenger.

“The sending-offs for us were both fair and on a difficult pitch I could see it happening tonight.”
