Former Barnsley striker Alan Semley is the new manager of Goole.

Semley arrives at Goole two days after the departure of Curtis Woodhouse following discussions about reducing the wage bill.

Semley was most recently Darren Holmes’ assistant manager at Nostell Miners Welfare in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

Holmes and Keith Mackie will assist Semley, who has also managed under 19s and reserve sides at Emley, Frickley and Ossett Town.

Semley told the club’s official website: “I am a UEFA licensed coach as is my assistant Keith Mackie and with Darren Holmes alongside us we will look to work with the existing squad remaining and add players who have the potential and are eager to play at this level.

“Our background is working with development squads at professional, Evo-Stik and NCEL clubs and that will have to be the focus for the club this year and beyond.

“We also hope to create a closer link with the U21/U19 teams as local players if good enough will also be vitally important going forward.

“We look forward to the challenge and the team along with the coaching staff will need the ongoing support of all Goole AFC fans.

“We must be positive so the club can look forward for the rest of the season and build from there.”

Semley’s first game in charge of Goole is on Saturday when they face Sutton Coldfield Town at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds in the Evo Stik Division One South.
