Alan Semley’s reign at Goole began with a defeat, but his new-look side earned many plaudits in the 2-1 defeat to Evo Stik Division One South leaders Sutton Coldfield Town at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds.

Semley was installed as Curtis Woodhouse’s replacement this week and had to act quickly to put together a side for the visit of Sutton Coldfield.

With the budget being cut, ten players left – leaving only six remaining.

Chris Adam, Julian Lawrence, Callum Harrison, Scott Matthews, Cechil Nyoni, Mo Sabo, Danny South, Ben Turner, Tyler Williams and Steve Woolley have all departed.

Peter Fotko, Bill Law, Ryan Musselwhite, Derry Robson, David Taylor and Dan Wilkinson have chosen to stay with Goole.

Semley and assistants Keith Mackie and Darren Holmes managed to sign ten new players and they all featured this afternoon.

As reported yesterday on Non League Yorkshire, James Coupland (Harrogate Railway) was one of them.

He was joined by Niall Barker (Swinefleet), Gareth Cooke (unattached), Andrew Jackson (Selby Town), Richard Mack (Ossett Town reserves), Jonathan Mackie (Athersley Rec), Kyle Rose (Ossett Town reserves), Dean Sidebottom (Dronfield Town), Will Sparks (Swinefleet).

Oliver Burton and Jimmy Hall were called up from the club’s under 19s.

Semley enjoyed a dream start as new captain Taylor put Goole in front early on.

The league leaders Sutton responded with a equaliser soon after and then Ryan Boothe hit the winner on the stroke of half-time.

Goole: Fotke, Mack, Mackie, Robson, Sparks, Hall, Taylor (captain), Sidebottom (Burton), Barker (Rose), Jackson, Coupland. Subs unused: Cooke, Musselwhite.
Referee: Ashley Guest
Attendance: 157
