Mick Norbury believes Maltby Main still have work to do to secure survival
Mick Norbury insists there is still work to do to secure survival for Maltby Main.
Maltby recovered from the 11-0 drumming to Shaw Lane Aquaforce by winning 4-1 at basement side Nostell Miners Welfare in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division last Saturday.
The victory put further distance between Maltby and the relegation zone.
Maltby are 14 points in front of second bottom Glasshoughton ahead of their trip to Leeds Road tomorrow and Norbury says that his side have to keep beating the teams around them.
“It is not nice getting beat 11-0, it hurts and it was the only game which we haven’t had a midweek game after,” he said.
“I wanted a midweek game so we could get over that quickly.
“We had seven days to dwell on it, but you have to take your hat off to the lads because they responded well at Nostell.
“We’re not safe by all means. If we can beat sides in and around us, its not important when you go to places like Worksop or Aquaforce or Tadcaster – although you would go to win.
“I don’t know about safety because there are 20 games to go. I said to the lads that we had 23 points after 23 games and that’s a point a game.
“If we do that in the second half of the season, we’ll be safe.
“We’ll concentrate on the bottom six teams and it is like a mini-league”
Norbury has also acted swiftly to replace Keith Mackie on his coaching staff with the appointment of former Selby Town and Rossington Main chief Ian Dring.
Dring has been out of the game since leaving Selby in late 2013.
Norbury and Dring bumped into each other at the NCEL’s showpiece game between Tadcaster and Shaw Lane and the former invited Dring to join him at Muglet Lane.
Dring completes the trio on the Maltby management team of Norbury and Martin Barnfield.
