Russ Eagle is back in football after Retford United moved quickly to appoint him as Paul Ward’s replacement.
Ward parted company with Retford following the 6-1 defeat to Garforth Town in Toolstation NCEL Premier Division yesterday.
Retford have struggled in the league this season and remain in relegation danger so Eagle’s task is to guide them to safety.
He will take charge for the first time on Wednesday night at Barton Town Old Boys, weather-permitting.
Eagle is a vastly experienced NCEL manager and has been on the lookout for a new role since his shock departure from Handsworth Parramore in mid-October.
He has managed Parkgate, Maltby and the original NCEL Handsworth team, who won the Division One title in 2012.
A Retford statement said: “The poor run of form that has seen the Badgers pick up only seven points out of a possible 30 since November and was a deciding factor to bring fresh management to try and pull the Badgers up the table.
“A seven point gap has opened up between Retford and their nearest rivals above in the league with a tough run of games to come.
”Wins against Selston and Hucknall Rolls Leisure in the Senior Cup have seen the club progress to the semi finals, and victory over Shirebrook in the league cup have been the only wins to date since December.
“The club would like to put on record their thanks for the commitment given by Paul over the last season and wish him well for the future.”
