Liam Ormsby is delighted with how his family have been welcomed at Tadcaster
Liam Ormsby says his move to Tadcaster Albion last summer has worked out perfectly from a career and family point of view.
The ambition of the Toolsation NCEL Premier Division leaders and FA Vase hopefuls attracted the midfielder to i2i Sports Stadium, but he also had to think of his mum and dad when making the decision.
His father Leeds United legend Brendan Ormsby suffered a stroke in December 2013 and he is really pleased with how his family have been welcomed into the fold by supporters of Tadcaster.
“The fans have been brilliant with him,” the midfielder said.
“A lot of people realise what has happened with my dad’s health and I’d like to say thank-you to everyone involved in Non League football.
“It is another way for him to enjoy himself and cheer the team on.
“When you sign for a new club it can be a bit scary at times when you leave somewhere for a new atmosphere.
“We have been welcomed with open arms, just like everybody who has signed here.
“Everyone says the same thing that it is a family club. My dad and my mum enjoy coming.
“There was a couple of options on the table during the summer.
“My family live ten minutes away and that was a big decider in where I wanted to go, as well as speaking to the owners about the ambition of the club.”
Ormsby, who was the hero in the second round win over Morpeth, played a key role in Tadcaster’s FA Vase fourth round victory over Brocton yesterday.
His second half effort was parried by the Brocton goalkeeper Callum Barrett which allowed Calum Ward to smash home the equaliser in front of over 600 fans.
The atmosphere was electric and Ormsby admits that Tad’s growing fanbase is making a difference.
“I’ve played at a few Non League clubs, but the support we have gained is unbelievable,” said Ormsby, who has also played for Garforth, Pontefract and Albion Sports.
“They drove us on in the second half to get the goal and to play in front of that every week is like having an extra man.
“There’s no comparison in Non League football. We took 200 to Armthorpe, 200 to Shaw Lane.
“We got beat at Shaw Lane, but they didn’t stop singing from start to finish.”
