Success in the Doodson Sport Cup would be a great reward for supporters of Harrogate Railway supporters, but Billy Miller won’t contemplate the idea just yet.

The long-awaited third round tie with Spennymoor is set to be played tonight at Station View at the third attempt and the reward for the winners is a trip to Ramsbottom United or Northwich Victoria.

Miller is likely to make a couple of alterations to the side that won at Bamber Bridge on Saturday.

He said: “It will be nice to get the game on and the draw for the next round is great for us if we get through.

“We will have to go away, but we can’t complain as we have had three home draws.

“We have to get this one out of the way first.

“We have a couple of tricks up our sleeves so we can into the game with a similar team to Saturday, but with some fresh youthful legs in it.

“It is a great opportunity for us to delve into the kids we have got at Askham Bryan so we will one or two of them.

“The Doodson Cup is similar to the West Riding County Cup in that it comes so early in the season and then you win a couple of rounds you think ‘wow we have a chance here’.

“Before you know you’re in the semi-finals and it does become important. I think it would be nice for the club to try and maintain a cup run.

“It would be a phenomenal reward for the club, but it doesn’t get any harder than Spennymoor.

“I think whoever gets through will think that there is the opportunity to go on and do something in it.”
