Harrogate Railway’s highly-rated goalkeeper Tom Goodwin has signed a contract with the Station View club.

Wigan-based Goodwin has penned a deal which lasts until the end of the Evo Stik Division One North campaign with an option for next season.

The 19-year-old signed for Railway at the same time as Matt Heath in October and Rail have won 12, drawn three and lost just two since he replaced Karl Dean between the sticks.

Goodwin, who was playing for AFC Fylde’s under 19s side, bumped into a friend of Billy Miller at a first aid course in the North West.

He was put in touch with Miller and he has never looked back since. His season became even more memorable when he spent two days on trial at Scottish side Alloa last week.

Miller said: “We’re doing this after a string of really of good performances.

“It is no secret over the the last 16 or 17 games that he has been a big part of why we have suddenly gone from the bottom half of the league to where we are now (in the play-offs).

“The introduction of Tom has been phenomenal for us and it is only right as a club that we can reward that in offering Tom as contract.

“He travels a long way to play for us so we are going to make sure financially that he is not out of pocket.

“If he fulfils his potential, he will certainly play at a very good level of non-league football, if not higher.

“He has a lot going for him and he’s level-headed. What impresses me most about Tom is his will to succeed. He drives from the other side of Wigan to play for the club and that gives you an indication of how much he wants it.”
