Ossett Town’s relegation fears have eased quite considerably after a vital 2-1 at strugglers New Mills in the Evo Stik Division One North.

John Reed’s men did it the hard way though having had to come from behind to nick the three points with a late second half goal.

Ossett had to avoid defeat to ensure that they didn’t plunge even deeper into relegation trouble as a New Mills win would have seen Roy Soule’s side go three points behind Ossett.

That potential situation has been averted and Ossett now have breathing space with a nine-point gap and games in hand.

The visitors had a lot to make up for after the 3-0 collapse at Mossley and Reed’s side really took the game to New Mills early on.

Ossett created chances, but found themselves a goal down at half-time as Mat Landregan had weaved his way through.

Town responded in the second half with Richard Patterson heading home a Ross Armstrong corner.

That gave Ossett belief and the decisive moment arrived soon after. Armstrong’s in-swinger was nodded back across goal by Patterson and Grant Allott applied the finishing touches from close range.

Ossett had to survive a nervy finish, but the key was getting their season back on track.
