Selby Town manager Dave Ricardo wants a disappointing season to finish on a high note in Toolstation NCEL Division One.
Selby have fallen well short of their pre-season aspirations and find themselves languishing in mid-table. Even the chances of qualifying for the FA Cup look extremely unlikely.
Weather-permitting, Selby are due to travel to Rossington Main tomorrow and Ricardo admits that he wants his side to improve quickly.
“Everybody wants to be in the top four challenging for the top positions, but we’re in a position that is true and we can’t blame anyone else,” he said.
“It is a position that is justified and we have 16 games left and I set a target a couple of games ago of winning ten league games before the end of the season.
“It is going to be hard, but we’re going to train hard as we have three big games to come which should be winnable.
“The club are as disappointed as I am. No-one is frustrated as I am because I’m the one picking the team.
“The club is quite rightly disappointed, but it is a case of we need to dig deep as a club by getting up the table.
“We can’t go up or down, but we need to finish the season as highly as we can.”
When he was appointed in the summer, former Beverley Town boss Ricardo was Selby’s tenth manager in four years.
He openly said that he wanted two campaigns in the job and he is already plotting for next season.
“You’re always planning ahead and I said two years at the start of the season and I still want to do that,” he said.
“It is up to the club whether they want to give me that second year, but it is a case of getting the players in towards the end of the season.
“We need to be learning game to game so that come pre-season we are in a good position.”
