Terry Higgins has stepped down as chairman of Toolstation NCEL Division One leaders AFC Emley because of work commitments.

Mr Higgins stepped into the breach in September 2013 after John Whitehead’s decision to step down following Darren Hepworth’s sacking and then eventual reinstatement.

Mr Higgins steered the club through some challenging times last summer and club president Nigel Wakefield is now the new chairman.

Mr Wakefield said: “Terry Higgins has done a tremendous job for AFC Emley, both as chairman and previously vice-chairman.

“He has been instrumental in laying the foundations off the field for, what we hope, will be success on the field. We appreciate that he needs to focus on his work right now but he is welcome to return to the club committee at any time.”

The appointment is initially until the club AGM in the summer when Mr Wakefield will be subject to election by the club membership.
